DEMS, short for "Defensibly Equipped Merchant Ship was a British standard for arming ships of the merchant marine for convoy service. The US also followed this practice for merchant marine ships, although in many cases with additional guns. The basics of the standard were an aft facing 3 to 6 inch gun to deal with subs or surface threats, a forward 3 inch gun and four or more light AA guns. Later in the war the 20mm mounts started to be replaced with either twin mounts, or 40MM Bofors type guns. Tramp Steamers are smaller merchant ships that have no formal route moving from port to port as trade needs. We offer three unique tramp steamers representing ships in civilian service and armed for wartime service. This DEMS equipped version features an aft 4 inch gun, a forward 3 inch gun and 4x 20MM mounts around the bridge, a wide poop deck supported by stanchions, quick deploy life rafts, and a slightly different pilot house design. Printed in FDM with SLA detail parts. Model comes unpainted.
This model features 3D printed parts: There are two types of 3D printed parts we use in our products. "FDM" is lower cost, and is what most would recognize as traditional 3D printing. This type of model printed in layers from thermal plastic (generally PLA or PETG), and is lightweight with reasonable detail but will have visible striation (or lines) that the hobbyist may want to clean up using putty, primer, or other hobby techniques. "SLA" is a laser cured photo-resin that has exceptional detail, and generally has a much smoother finish without significantly noticeable striation. This type of material is more expensive, and fine details can be more delicate. Some models may use either or both types of parts, and some models may have the ability for the buyer to select the print type under print options. These models are intended to be painted and may come in different colors.
